~ growing dahlias

we bought cafe au last dahlia tubers from Etsy & planted them around the beginning of July. I had no idea if they would grow but for $8 i thought we should give it a go.. .

After about 10 hours of research/youtube vids etc, {literally sifting through so much info to condense it to the basics} we

i} planted them in well draining soil {just the highest place in the garden bed}
ii} planted them right side up an inch under the soil {yes i did have to email a pic & check they were  the right way up lol}
iii} when the green shoots began to peek through {after just a few days} we added another inch of soil so the stem grows strong enough to hold these enormous flowers
iii} about two weeks later used a little of this aged manure from Heirloom Roses ~ the Best! {only a little though, you want the plant healthy but don't want the stem growing too fast, it will be weak}
& voi la!

it was so amazing to see,
& so easy & inexpensive, {to buy one cut flower is around $10, if you can get them, & this has about 10 flowers ready to open! in only around 5-6 weeks!
i have been blown away!

all i can say is, plant a flower! my vote is irises for Spring, roses for Summer & dahlias for Autumn. & shipping now makes them so readily available!

{a side note, the listing said cafe au lait but i think this is actually fleurel? at any rate, I'm just so happy they were healthy tubers, that they've already bloomed & that they actually grew! yay!}

Happy Gardening Petals!
